La Xiao Yun

(scoliosis of the spine and chronic tuberculosis). La Xiao Yun's case, demonstrates the many facets of HAND. Despite being previously identified by the Chinese Government as in serious need of help and being given an initial course of medicine, no further action was taken. This was due to a number of factors;

the remoteness of her home, an overstretched system without the capacity to follow up cases and a lack of education. La Xiao Yun's family did not insist she took her medicine and her condition deteriorated. Through Jeff Mcconnell and phone calls from the UK and China, as well as frequent visits from local volunteers, La Xiao Yun and her family were convinced of the need for her to take her medicine and to return to our clinic when each three month supply of medicine runs out. Our persistence seems to be paying off and La Xiao Yun now understands that people all over the world are trying to help her.
