HAND began operating from Zhiziluo village in the Fugong County of Yunnan. It overlooks the magnificent NuJiang(Furious River) which runs from Tibet into Burma and on to Vietnam, meandering through mountains 3,000 metres high.

The homes of the Nu and LiSu line the mountains of the NuJiang where the land is more fertile, families being able to trace their respective histories back hundreds of years. Both the beauty and poverty of the area are striking.

在3000多米高山上的怒族人的村寨（见山背上的白点），现代的生活基本供给很难到达。怒族人辈辈自生自灭，特别是有病难求医，更无钱求医，大多病死在家中。

Zhiziluo was once the capital of this remote county of China but everything changed once government moved the capital and resources that come with it in a failed attempt to move the population down the mountain.

The lives of around 80% of the Nu and LiSu people revolve around the local Churches, some of which literally sit in the clouds. Hearing the congregation sing unaccompanied hymns taught to them by James Fraser over 50 years ago is a truly moving experience, regardless of your beliefs.

Local run clinics are poorly equipped and staffed by “doctors” with next to no training. Due to poor education levels and cultural obstacles it has proved impossible to convince local people of the dangers of relying on such practitioners. However, since the treatments available are minimal and local people don’t have the means to pay for all but the most basic of treatment, we try to fill the gap by paying for the treatment of those with serious conditions.

At the same time, seeing as so many of the conditions that we see are hygiene or nutrition related, we are conducting education programmes to help tackle the smaller problems before they develop into major health concerns.?

Our local doctor He Ming Yi, hand picked and having undergone a training programme especially designed for the needs of the area at LiuKu hospital. The doctors who taught He Ming Yi told us that he worked tirelessly and with real intelligence. Foreign medical staff have since verified that he is able to apply these skills in the field after observing him work for a sustained period.

Due to years’ persistence of providing medical care of “helping the poor and saving life”, HAND has gained its great prestige in Pihe and Fugong area in Nujiang State. July 2009, HAND had established a medical aid project with Pihe Township Hospital in Fugong County.

由于多年坚持在少数民族山区救助贫困山民，“乐夫诊所”获得当地“救死扶伤”的口碑，也于2009年7月与匹河乡医院达成医疗救助合作项目，为“乐夫诊所”进一步在怒江地区实施国际爱心扶贫医疗救助工作奠基了一个广泛基础。
